Of Mice and Men Auditions

Auditions for Tupelo Community Theatre’s production of John Steinbeck’s classic Of Mice and Men are scheduled for Sunday, October 13th at 2 p.m.  and Monday, October 14 at 7 p.m. at TCT’s Off Broadway facility at 213 East Franklin Street.  The cast requires one woman, age 20 – 35. and nine men of varying ages.  One of the male characters should be an older African American.  The play contains profane and racist language to accurately portray the gritty lives of its characters.  Susan and Otis Tims will direct. 

The play, first produced in 1937,  looks at loss and longing among migrant workers scratching out a living in Depression-era California.  It is considered one of the principal works of its Nobel Prize-winning author.  The show will be presented January 23 – 25, 2020 in the Lyric Theater in downtown Tupelo as part of TCT’s 50th Anniversary season.  For more information contact the directors at [email protected] or call the TCT office at 844-1935.

South Pacific Auditions

Additional auditions will be announced for November for South Pacific.

Tupelo Community Theatre, in partnership with the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, will present a concert version of South Pacific in celebration of the 50th anniversaries of TCT and NMSO on March 21, 2020  at the Lyric Theatre.  Auditions will be Sunday, October 20th  at 1:30 p.m. and Monday, October 21st at 6:30 p.m. at TCT Off Broadway, 213 East Franklin Street.  This diverse cast includes men and women ages 16 and older.  Those auditioning for a principal or supporting role will be asked to sing a 60 second portion of a song from the show.  Music will be provided for the those auditioning for the chorus.  Two children’s roles will be cast in January.  Beverly McAlilly and Sonja Jenkins will serve as the musical director and stage director, respectively.  For more information you may contact the TCT office at [email protected] or call 662-844-1935.

Auditions for ‘night, Mother

uTupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for ‘night, Mother by Marsha Norman, Thursday, September 12th at 7 p.m. at TCT Off Broadway 213 East Franklin Street.  The 1993 Pulitzer Prize winning play was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play.  The play is about a daughter, Jessie, and her mother, Thelma. It begins with Jessie calmly telling her Mama that by morning she will be dead, as she plans to commit suicide that very evening. The subsequent dialogue between Jessie and Mama slowly reveals her reasons for her decision, her life with Mama, and how thoroughly she has planned her own death, culminating in a disturbing, yet unavoidable, climax.  Those auditioning for the two female roles should be able to play mid-30s  or older.  No advance preparation needed.  The production dates for ‘night, Mother are November 21, 23, 2019 and Tom Booth will direct.  For more information email the director at [email protected] or call the TCT office at 844-1935. 

Auditions for Haunted Theatre

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold a meeting on Tuesday, September 17th at 6 p.m. for anyone wanting to be involved in the 2019 Haunted Theatre.  All those wishing to participate as a director, actor, builder or support person should meet at the Lyric Theatre to sign up. Anyone wishing to participate that is not high school age or older must have a parent or guardian participate with them.  Dates for this year will be October 18, 19, 25, 26 and 31.  If you are unable to attend you may email [email protected] or call the TCT office at 844-1935.

Auditions for A Christmas Story

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for A Christmas Story, by Philip Grecian, at the Lyric Theatre, 201 N. Broadway in Downtown Tupelo.   The play is based on the motion picture A Christmas Story and on the book In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd.  Shepherd’s memoir of growing up in the midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself at Higbee’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out!”   Auditions for boys and girls will be Sunday, September 15th at 2 p.m. and everyone should be 10-16 years old.  Men’s and women’s auditions will be Monday, September 16th at 6:30 pm and those auditioning should be able to play characters in their mid-20s to mid-40s.  No advance preparation is needed and Debby Gibbs will direct.  Production dates for A Christmas Story are December 12-14, 2019.  For additional information contact the director at  [email protected] or call the TCT office at 844-1935.
