Auditions for Deathtrap

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for the thriller Deathtrap, by Ira Levin, on Monday, November 15 and Tuesday, November 16 at 6:00 pm in the rehearsal hall of the Lyric Theatre, 201 N. Broadway in downtown Tupelo.

Described as two-thirds thriller and one-third a devilishly clever comedy the audience will suspend their disbelief, be delighted and possibly scream a little.

The cast consist of men ages 20 and older and women 30 and older and no advanced preparation is required.

Auditions for Irving Berlin’s White Christmas

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Irving Berlin’s musical White Christmas on October 18th and 19th at 6 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre, 201N. Broadway in downtown Tupelo.  Based on the beloved, timeless film, this heartwarming musical adaptation features 17 Irving Berlin songs and tells of two veterans that have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II.  With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters in route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge. 

The cast is made up of adult men and women high school age or older. Anyone wishing to audition for the 9 year old girl role should email 1tct@bellsouth.net to set up an appointment.  Those auditioning will be taught a short song they will be asked to sing.   Production dates are December 9-11.  For more information call the TCT office at 662-844-1935 or email the director at haleyajohnson84@gmail.com.

Senior Theatre Troop Organizational Meeting

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold an organizational meeting to form a Senior Theatre Troop for older performers on August 19th at 6 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre in downtown Tupelo.  The purpose of the group is offer theatre experiences to people who may have never acted before, others who have performed and want to do it again and those that now have time to explore the world of theatre.  The group is also open to those that want to direct, design sets/lights/sound/costumes, or work backstage as part of a crew.  The troop may explore acting classes, live theatre viewing, play reading, improvisation, storytelling or theatre productions such as readers theatre, short plays, variety shows, plays from life stories of participants, musical theatre, and topics facing seniors, among others.  For more information or if you are unable to attend on this date email 1tct@bellsouth.net or call the TCT office at 662-844-1935. 

Auditions for Becky’s New Car at TCT Off Broadway

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Becky’s New Car, by Steven Dietz, on Monday, August 2nd and Tuesday, August 3rd at 6 pm at TCT Off Broadway. 213 East Franklin Street.  No advance preparation is needed. 

Have you ever been tempted to flee your own life? Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and a middling marriage–nothing is quite wrong, but nothing is quite right either. Then one night a grief-struck millionaire stumbles into her office and Becky is offered nothing short of a new life. The audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun on the hilarious and touching journey down the road not taken. 

The cast is made up of 4 men and 3 women ages  21 and up.  Production dates are September 30, October 1 and 2 and.  Becky Shaffer will direct.

Auditions for The Play That Goes Wrong

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for The Play That Goes Wrong, by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, on Wednesday, June 23rd and Thursday, June 24th at 6pm at the Lyric Theatre.  The cast is made up of 8 men and 2 women ages  21 and up.

The Play That Goes Wrong is a hilarious, farcical murder mystery, play-within-a-play, where everything that can go wrong does and the accident-prone thespians battle to make it through to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences.

Summer Youth Theatre Auditions for Godspell Jr.

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Godspell Jr on May 23 at 2 p.m. and 24 at 6 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre at 201 North Broadway in downtown Tupelo. 

The show tells of a group of disciples as they help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing.

Those wishing to audition should be in grades 6-12 and no advance preparation is needed. Everyone will be asked to sing at auditions,  Please wear a mask and follow all CDC recommendations. Liz Dawson will direct.

Crimes of the Heart

Tupelo Community Theatre will present the Pulitzer Prize winning play Crimes of the Heart on April 15-17, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. on April 17th. Written by Jackson native Beth Henley and first staged at TCT in 1988, Crimes of the Heart is a family drama set in Mississippi that certainly withstands the test of time. It tells the story of the three Magrath sisters and deals with past resentments as the family is forced to deal with assorted relatives and relationships.

The Lyric may now seat at 50% capacity and masks are requited during performances. Tickets may be claimed by all patrons and season members beginning Monday, March 22nd and will go on sale to the public on April 5th. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and younger and the play contains a very limited amount of language that some patrons may find offensive.
