The Marvelous Wonderettes

Tupelo Community Theatre will present its season opening production of The Marvelous Wonderettes at the Lyric Theatre. When called upon to perform at their senior prom as a last minute replacement, Springfield High Songleaders Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy, rally together to entertain their classmates in four-part harmony. The show uses pop songs from the 1950s and 1960s as a vehicle to tell its story and includes favorites like Mr. Sandman, Heatwave, Lollipop, It’s In His Kiss, You Don’t Own Me, Dream Lover, It’s My Party, Son of a Preacher Man, Leader of the Pack and Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight. The hit musical comedy continues to play Off Broadway in New York City. The production will be August 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. with a Saturday matinee on August 25th at 2 p.m. TCT season wildcard members may claim their tickets any time. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students and younger and will go on sale to the public at Noon on August 6th by calling the TCT box office at 844-1935.

Auditions for The Marvelous Wonderettes

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for the smash off-Broadway hit The Marvelous Wonderettes, created by Roger Bean, June 10th at 2 pm. and June 11 at 6 p.m. in the rehearsal hall of the Lyric Theatre. The musical takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! Later the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. Featuring over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits, The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling in this must-take musical trip down memory lane! The cast is made up of adult women ages 18-40 and must be able to sing. No advance preparation is necessary. Christi Houin will direct, with David East as musical director.
