The Robber Bridegroom

Tupelo Community Theatre’s season opening production of The Robber Bridegroom, based on a story by Eudora Welty, will be presented August 24-26 at 7:30, with a matinee at 2 pm on August 26 at the Lyric Theatre. The musical is a rousing, bawdy Southern fairytale from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Driving Miss Daisy! The score, by Robert Waldman, is one of the best bluegrass scores ever heard on Broadway. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for students and younger and go on sale August 14th. Auditions for The Robber Bridegroom

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for The Robber Bridegroom, with music by Robert Waldman, book and lyrics by Alfred Uhry and based on the novella by Eudora Welty, on Sunday, June 11 at 2:00 pm and Monday, June 12 at 6:00 pm in the Lyric Theatre rehearsal hall located at 201 N. Broadway. Set in eighteenth-century Mississippi, the show is a rousing, bawdy Southern fairytale from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Driving Miss Daisy and one of the only genuine bluegrass scores in a Broadway musical. No advance preparation is needed but those auditioning will be taught and asked to sing part of a song from the show. An accompanist will be provided. There will also be cold readings from the script. The cast is made up of 5 males and 4 females ages 21 and up. Jennifer Cummings will direct and the production dates are Aug 24-26.
