Auditions for Love, Loss, and What I Wore

TCT Off Broadway will hold auditions for Love, Loss and What I Wore by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, based on the book by Ilene Beckerman , on Sunday May 21st at 2 p.m. and Monday, May 22nd at 7 p.m. at 213 East Franklin Street. The winner of the 2010 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience the play proves that a great show is always in fashion. With its compulsively entertaining subject matter the show uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories that all women can relate to, creating one of the most enduring theatergoing experiences domestically and overseas. The cast is made up of 5 adult women ages 18 and older and will be directed by Lynn Nelson. No advance preparation is need. Production dates are July 27-29. Summer Intern

Tupelo Community Theatre is seeking an intern for summer volunteer work.
The intern would be involved in all aspects for operations, both

Award winning Cicada performance

Tupelo Community Theatre’s award winning production of Cicada, by Amory native Jerre Dye, will present a final performance of the show on Monday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. at TCT Off Broadway 213 East Franklin. The cast will perform the 60 minute cut version of the play they will perform at the Southeastern Theatre Conference Community Theatre Festival in Lexington, Ky. The Cicada cast was awarded Best Ensemble Acting, with Jennifer Cummings winning Best Supporting Actress and Lisa Martin Outstanding Achievement in Acting. The show also won Best Production. This is TCT’s 6th year in a row to represent Mississippi at the SETC regional festival. Tickets are $20 and may be reserved by calling the TCT office at 844-1935.

TCT Youth Production Auditions

TCT Off Broadway will hold auditions for its youth production of On the Radio on Monday, February 20th and Tuesday, February 21st at 5:30 p.m. in the rehearsal hall of the Lyric Theatre. From the Depression and WWII to Elvis, the Beatles and disco, the radio is where America hears the songs that become the soundtracks of their lives. This musical features 6 “top hits” with short scenes for boys and girls in grades 4th-8th. Students will work on a song from the play as a group as part of the audition. Love Letters Auditions

TCT Off Broadway will hold auditions for Love Letters by A. R. Gurney on January 22 at 3 p.m. and 23 at 6:30 p.m. at 213 East Franklin Street. The play is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down. The cast calls for one man and one woman 30 years of age or older and no advance preparation is needed. John McCustion will direct and production dates are February 23, 24, and 25th. Auditions for Hairspray

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Hairspray, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, on January 4th and 5th at 5:30 on the stage of the Lyric Theatre. The musical with 1960s-style dance music is set in Baltimore, Maryland and tells of teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream to dance on a local TV dance program. Tracy wins a role on the show, becomes a celebrity overnight, meets a colorful array of characters and launches a campaign to integrate the show.

The 2003 winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is based on the 1988 John Waters film. The diverse cast includes male and female roles of all ages 13 years and older. Advance preparation is needed and music may be picked up beginning December 12th from 9-4 p.m. Monday -Friday at the Lyric Theatre office.

Auditions for Noises Off

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Noises Off by Michael Frayn on Sunday at 2 p.m., and Monday, November 21, at 7 p.m., in the rehearsal hall of the Lyric Theatre. Winner of the 1982 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Play and nominated for both the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for Best Play in 1984, Noises Off has been called the funniest farce ever written. The play presents a manic menagerie as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. As the play deals with slamming doors, on- and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring, all the action figures into the plot of this hilarious, classically comic play. The cast calls for adult men and women of all ages who are capable of physical comedy. No advance preparation is necessary.
