Tupelo Community Theatre is seeking an intern for summer volunteer work.
The intern would be involved in all aspects for operations, both
administration and artistic. A scholarship is available and more

Tupelo Community Theatre’s award winning production of Cicada, by Amory native Jerre Dye, will present a final performance of the show on Monday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. at TCT Off Broadway 213 East Franklin. The cast will perform the 60 minute cut version of the play they will perform at the Southeastern Theatre Conference Community Theatre Festival in Lexington, Ky. The Cicada cast was awarded Best Ensemble Acting, with Jennifer Cummings winning Best Supporting Actress and Lisa Martin Outstanding Achievement in Acting. The show also won Best Production. This is TCT’s 6th year in a row to represent Mississippi at the SETC regional festival. Tickets are $20 and may be reserved by calling the TCT office at 844-1935.

TCT Off Broadway will hold auditions for its youth production of On the Radio on Monday, February 20th and Tuesday, February 21st at 5:30 p.m. in the rehearsal hall of the Lyric Theatre. From the Depression and WWII to Elvis, the Beatles and disco, the radio is where America hears the songs that become the soundtracks of their lives. This musical features 6 “top hits” with short scenes for boys and girls in grades 4th-8th. Students will work on a song from the play as a group as part of the audition. TCT Off Broadway will hold auditions for Love Letters by A. R. Gurney on January 22 at 3 p.m. and 23 at 6:30 p.m. at 213 East Franklin Street. The play is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down. The cast calls for one man and one woman 30 years of age or older and no advance preparation is needed. John McCustion will direct and production dates are February 23, 24, and 25th. Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Hairspray, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, on January 4th and 5th at 5:30 on the stage of the Lyric Theatre. The musical with 1960s-style dance music is set in Baltimore, Maryland and tells of teenager Tracy Turnblad’s dream to dance on a local TV dance program. Tracy wins a role on the show, becomes a celebrity overnight, meets a colorful array of characters and launches a campaign to integrate the show.
The 2003 winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is based on the 1988 John Waters film. The diverse cast includes male and female roles of all ages 13 years and older. Advance preparation is needed and music may be picked up beginning December 12th from 9-4 p.m. Monday -Friday at the Lyric Theatre office.

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Noises Off by Michael Frayn on Sunday at 2 p.m., and Monday, November 21, at 7 p.m., in the rehearsal hall of the Lyric Theatre. Winner of the 1982 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Play and nominated for both the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for Best Play in 1984, Noises Off has been called the funniest farce ever written. The play presents a manic menagerie as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. As the play deals with slamming doors, on- and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring, all the action figures into the plot of this hilarious, classically comic play. The cast calls for adult men and women of all ages who are capable of physical comedy. No advance preparation is necessary.

Tupelo Community Theatre will hold auditions for Cicada, by award winning Tupelo native Jerre Dye, on Monday, Oct 24 and Tuesday, Oct 25 at 6 p.m. in the Lyric Rehearsal Hall. The Chicago Tribune’s review of Cicada said “Dye’s voice is most definitely authentic and his understanding of trauma and loss palpable.” Chicago Theatre Review described the play as “a poetic southern drama riding over waves of angst and anger, laced with moments of unexpected humor. The play takes place in rural Mississippi in July 1974 where in Lily’s isolation, memories become real moving her backward and forward in time. The cast of 9 calls for actors who can play a 10 year old girl and a 17 year old boy, as well as adult men and women of all ages. Parents should be aware the play does contain a limited amount of language some may find offensive. No advance prep is needed and Tom Booth will direct. Production dates are January 26-28.
